Critical Process Reflection
In this current age video games are what people meet to talk about, and hence developers
are forced to keep on innovating new types of games to ensure that they keep their
customers entertained. It is not strange to find people of all ages playing video games as
it is a modern way of having a ‘get together.’ Nowadays, it has become almost a basic
need for every home to have video games as video games are often used by families to
bond.
When video games started, many people associated them with men and boys—and many
men and boys did play them. Because of this view that video games were associated with
men and boys, some women sometimes felt less comfortable playing them, and some
men and boys also created enviroments which tended to be more male-gamer friendly
and less female-gamer friendly. However, today, hings are changing: many women are
interested in playing video games, and now both genders create games and even compete
against each other without no problem. The reason I decided to focus on the topic of
video games is because I am a female who is interested in video games a s a career, and I
know that many people have misconceptions about the effects of video games… I
understand some teenage deaths have been associated with video games, but I believe
that what matters most is a person’s view of video games because. Consequently, I
chose to focus on the argument that video games are art because when we appreciate the
sophisticated techniques used to make the games, people will associate them with the
positive aspects of life, and this will help video games gain a more positive
reputation.
The Argumentative Essay
In the early stages of composing my argumentative essay, I had to make some decisions
to ensure that my topic was exhaustively discussed. For example, video games are a large
topic, with a lot of interesting parts to focus on, but I decided to narrow my focus down
to discussing the characteristics of video games that make them art, rather than focusing
on the positive effects of video games. Also, I decided to start my paper by informing the
reader, and giving them a short history of the invention of video games so that the reader
can understand the changes that have taken place in video games over the years.
However, even thought I knew what I wanted to argue about video games, I
experienced some struggles while developing the essay. The first struggle I rant into what
that most materials that I got after researching on the topic of video games in most cases
were medical articles that condemned the art in video games. Also, the articles that I
found which discussed video games as an art mostly focused on the technical
development of video games, so I had to create theoretical interpretations based on what
was written. Even though this presented a challenge at first, it also ended up being one of
the things that I feel contributed to one of the strengths of this essay: it forced me to to
combine the theoretical and technical aspects of video games into one, to bring forth the
art aspect. My primary purpose of writing this essay is to ensure that people appreciate
the art involved in the development of video games. Ultimately, I want my essay to
ensure that people will embrace video games with the same passionate that they embrace
other art forms like paintings, photography, and fashion.
The Multimodal Project
In developing my multimodal project, I ran into various hitches. I wanted to create a …At
first, it was hard to find a parent, or a professor who wanted to speak positively about
video games since many parents and professors thought that video games made people
lazy! Also, most of my audience did not understand the difference between the positive
effects of video games, and the idea of video games as an art. However, in the end, after
explaining the two differences to my audience, my interview subjects were able to give
relevant answers to the questions I asked them in my interview.
In the early stages of doing the multimodal project I had to decide which people to
interview based on whether I wanted to interview familiar or unfamiliar people. I
decided to interview unfamiliar people because I believe that they are more likely to give
me genuine answers to my questions, and having truthful answers to my questions would
make my video more convincing. After deciding I would interview people I was
unfamiliar with, I then decided to interview three groups of people: professors, parents,
and kids because each group represented a different perspective that could convince my
audience, each came from difference age groups that could match my range of viewers
and each had different thoughts on the topic that could help my audience view my topic
in a more positive way. Out of all of these interview subjects, the kids were the easiest to
interview because the topic was ‘catchy’ to most kids, so they were willing to talk about
it since it is something they are very passionate about! Another issue that I hadwhile
filming my video was the camera setting. Unfortunately, the camera was set up on
“automatic,” so while I was filming, occasionally when the camera zoomed to focus, it
made a weird noise. I tried to fix the noise through editing the film and trying to
minimize the sound of the camera zooming in and out, .however, this did not make as
much of a difference as I hoped. In addition, I guided the conversations in all my
interviews to ensure that my audience did not deviate from the topic of discussion; to
make sure that all the questions I asked were answered; and to make my argument more
convincing.
Conclusion
While writing my essay and doing my projects, I had to make decisions that seemed to be
wrong at the moment, but in the end, they made my work more attractive and made it
quality. For example…In my essay, I was able to handle characteristics of video games
and how they can be incorporated into an art. Also, in my project, I was able to interview
people of different ages, who gave diverse points of concerning the topic. There is
nothing I would do differently in my work. Video games are an art form that the world
should appreciate since video games involve a lot of creative writing and drawing.
Writing in the digital age requires the writer to be keen on the topic they are discussing so
that they can easily identify materials that will help them write.
