Option #1: Creative Writing Assignment – Journey
PART ONE: IDEAS

I want my story to be about a girl who has just found out that her best friend had betrayed
her. I want to express her journey to finding out how her friend betrayed her. I want to show
what she did to cope with the loss of her best friend and her journey to finding friends who
would treat her so much better than her ex best friend.
In the beginning the girl will stumble upon a text on her best friend’s phone and saw
something she thought she’d never see in her entire life. She obviously confronts her friend and a
fight breaks out between the two and the friendship is ruined.
In the middle, the story will discuss the emotional roller coasters the girl will be going
through and how she has to deal with a slightly different life at school. Losing your best friend
also means losing some privileges you get with it. At some point, the girl will open up to
someone she never thought she’d ever talk to and the new friend helps her adjust to a new
happier life.
At the end, the girl will be happy with her new group of friends and social life. She will
not forget about her past but she will use it as a reminder to be wary of whom she befriends.
Today was going to be like every other day; a day where me and my best friend, Heather,
and I have a merry time at my humble abode. A day where we gossip about the latest drama at
school and bake cookies. A day that ends as joyous get together. A day where I spend time with
my best friend; someone who I trust and love dearly. Someone I could never even think of
turning their back on me.
It was a tiring day of chemistry and physics, but at the end of that tiring day awaited
plentiful lively hours with Heather. Heather and I have been friends since grade school and we
now consider ourselves to be a sweet and fluffy combination of pancakes and maple syrup. That
is how close we’ve gotten over the many years of school. At the end of the day, we blissfully
skipped our way back to my home, usually blathering incoherently and laughing at our foolish
jokes.
“So,” started Heather, “What kind of cookies are we baking today? Red velvet or old
school chocolate chip?” I twirled a piece of my hair as I thought about the question. We haven’t
made chocolate chip in over a week so maybe we should make that… no, red velvet is always
better, I said to myself.
“Let’s make red velvet today,” I reply gleefully. Heather frowned. “Man, we haven’t
made chocolate chip in over a week though! But I guess… fine let’s make red velvet”
“Okay then let’s get to my place quickly, I need your help to study for my history quiz
tomorrow”
“Alright.”
Heather and I got home and immediately, I forgot to study for my history quiz. The
excitement of baking red velvet cookies after so long weaned the thoughts of studying away to
some non-existent place in my mind. Heather started to take out the ingredients for the cookies
then suddenly said,” I forgot the measurements for the cookies, Alice. Can you grab my phone
for me? I have it somewhere in my notes.” I nodded and headed towards my room; Heather and I
had dropped off our bags and phones in my room before rushing to the kitchen.
I found her phone by her bag and just as I was about to pick it up, the phone lit up.
Heather had gotten a message from Brianna. Why is Brianna messaging Heather? I thought. I
swear she told me they were both sworn enemies… Confused, I open Heather’s phone to read the
message. I know it was wrong, and it could have prevented many problems, but Brianna and
Heather even acknowledging each other at school would have shocked me. I was intrigued.
Brianna: yeah idk why you even hang out with Alice. She’s a total loser. Ur a saint
to even speak to her lol.
Wait what, I thought. Why would Heather be a “saint” to speak to me…and why is she
even calling me a loser. I’ve never spoken to Brianna. Even more confused now, I scrolled up
the message to get a general idea of the conversation.
Heather: Hey girl, I’m so sick of Alice, ugh. All she ever does is bake cookies and do
homework.
Brianna: hey, yeah it’s odd ur friends with her. I thought her weirdness would have
made u ditch her already.
Heather: I mean, if I ditch her, it will be obvious I don’t like her. I think I’m lowkey just gonna slip away from her. I’ve started by going to her place less. She doesn’t seem
to notice yet lol.
Brianna: good. uk, just ditch her asap. I wanna go to the mall with u and I don’t
want that loser to tag along.
Heather: Don’t worry about it. She is a loser, idk why I ever called her my best
friend. Lame.
Brianna: yeah idk why you even hang out with Alice. She’s a total loser. Ur a saint
to even speak to her lol
I tried to wrap my head around what I just read. Does Heather really think I’m a loser? I
hoped she was just joking or something.
“Hey what’s taking you so lon – wait, why are you reading my messages?” I heard
Heather’s voice from the doorway. She sounded frightened. I turned the phone’s screen to face
her.
“What is this all about?” I asked sternly.
