Problem Statement
Integrating database system is a database project that ensures that the normal daily
operation of the merged companies resumes efficiently, by facilitating the join of the data from
the two companies with the focus being on the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs
department first, followed by all the other departments. This is after an acquisition of Baxalta
that would allow Shire Pharma to expand its operation and market base and thus realizing a
steeper growth. The project would ensure a successful merging of the database system to form a
single centralized database. Integrating the database system presents a new challenge to Shire IT
team, who will need to work on this new project to ensure that the companies processes are back
to normal (Worthen, 2002).
The project demands the development of a complete integration plan, that needs to be
checked as this will ensure for the new database system to run smoothly. The integration plan
will include the preparation stages where the acquired companies’ staff, stakeholders, and
customers are prepared for the merge ahead, followed by impact assessment on the data to be
joined after which the plan database integration Implementation Strategy is a documented and
the project proceeds to join the two-company’s data.
The project starts by collecting data from the two companies and it continues with the
data analysis. Upon completion of the analysis, a centralized database system will be developed
where the data from both companies are joined together. Once the project is developed the two
companies’ customer and related information that facilitate daily running of the operation will
commence with minimal interruptions. The centralized database system is formed because of the
merger, and it will be used to a run Shire business process (Bwisa, 2017) with a more robust and

an effective database system that will serve the new market and thus facilitating a more rapid
growth for Shire. The project scope is limited to the formation of a new centralized database
system.
Project Overview
There is a need to form one joined database system that will incorporate a
synchronization of the business merger that Shire acquired. The new developed centralized
database will enable the smooth running of Shire daily business process as anticipated by
management. The purpose of the merge is to have Baxalta start working together with Shire to
achieve patient success, which will enable to organization to remain the number one
pharmaceutical specializing in rare disease, and it will allow Shire to remain profitable,
therefore, a successful merger is essential as this will form a central management point. Having
two different database systems for the same company poses a management challenge and to
avoid such challenges a database integration is important. The project will ensure a smooth
management process from a single point of view (Kaplan & Norton, 2006).
A database driven management system applying the new technology such as cloud
computing, application program, database environment: data, hardware, software, people, and
procedures among other will be used to implement the new system, this includes testing to
ensure performance before the actual data and information are put in place. This project
implementation phase will ensure that all the system requirements including hardware, software
and other, are well outlined and a clear guidance is put in place to facilitate implementation and
testing plausibility (Wiegers & Beatty, 2013).
The project aims at integrating Shire existing database and enhancing it, and this new
system will allow for the opportunity of new business process, rules, and records, which is why it

is important to implement Guidelines throughout the project. These guidelines will avoid any
potential challenges, it will ensure that all the requirement for the enhanced system are outlined,
