The Israeli- Palestinian war or conflict is a term used to refer to the ongoing conflict and
struggle between the Palestinians and the Israelis. This struggle began in the mid-20th century.
The cause of this struggle is the Jewish immigration, the sectarian conflict that arose between the
Arab and the Jewish. This conflict is an intractable war. This war takes place in West Bank,
Gaza, Lebanon and Israel.
Despite efforts and the reconciliation of the Israel with Jordan and Egypt, the war
between the Israelis and the Palestinian has failed to end. The two have failed to reach final
agreement. The main issues in the Israeli-Palestinian fight is the mutual recognition, security, the
borders, the rights of water, the Israeli settlement, the right of return of the Palestinian, as well as
the freedom of movement of the Palestinians.
Many attempts have been made to make the two come to a final peace agreement. Some
of the attempts is the attempt to have a state of Palestinian alongside the state of Israel.
According to a poll that was conducted in the year 2007, more people preferred having two state
nation over any other type of solution. The conflict has led to quite a number of different views
and opinions which have led to more divisions not only between the Israelis and the Palestinians
but also between the societies in this nation (Pollack, 2002).
This war and fight has been conducted by people such as the army, terror cells, the
paramilitary groups and the individuals. Casualties are not only found among the civilians but
also among the military. This is an indicator that international actors are also involved in this
conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians took its roots in the 19h and the 20th
centuries. This led to the birth of several nationalist movements among the Arabs and the Jews.
These nationalists’ movements were all geared towards achieving sovereignty for its people. The
collision of these movements led to the emergence of the Palestinian nationalism in the 1920s
which later led to the emergence of the Israelis and the Palestinian conflict. This IsraelPalestinian war began in 1947 and later developed to the wider Arab-Israeli war (Edward, 2000).
Under the leadership of Haj Amin al-Husseini, the hard-line Palestinian returned from
Damascus. This led to the emergence of the Palestinian Arab Nationalist struggle that advocated
for the building of homesteads for the Arabs of the Palestine. The leader, Al Hussein who is the
person who came up with the Palestinian Arab Nationalist movement Jewish groups such as
marked the Jewish National movement as his greatest enemy. This led large riots in the year
1920 in Jerusalem and in Jaffa.
It is in the year 1929 that anti-Jewish riots were started by the Arab leadership. These
movements resulted to a great number of casualties among the Jews who were living in Hebron
and Gaza. The struggle of the Arab nationals in the Palestine drew a lot of Arab nationalist
militants. Al-Qassam was one of the Arab nationalist militants who came from Syria and
happened to establish the Black Hand militants. Al-Qassam later died in the hands of the British
in the year 1935. This led to an eruption of tension and a strike which later deteriorated into
violence.
This violence lasted until the beginning of the World War II. It ended with over 5,000
casualties with most of them from the Arab side. It is the World War II that the war between the
Israel and Palestine calmed down. By the end of the World War II, tension was rising again.

Palestine-Israeli Conflict History from 1940 to Present
The history of the Israel- Palestinians war is quite complex. The reason of this fight
however is quite understandable. The religious and the historical differences are quite important
in this conflict. The fight has been on for over 60 years now. The hatred and the refusal to give in
to the other side are deepened by every death and every act of terrorism that takes place (Yaar &
Hermann, 2007).
According to history the Jews from the Bible, referred to their land as Israel, Judea.
Canaan, Galilee, Samaria. The present Jews believe in the Biblical days and that God gave them
the land. The Roman Empire then took over the land and ruled it many years after the Jews were
given the land. The empire killed a lot of the Jews. Many fled the country and only a few
remained behind. Many of them remained outside Israel until in the 19th and the 20th century.
Many returned after the World War II.
It is after the return of the Jews that the war began. These Jews called themselves the
Israelis derived from the ancient homeland name, Israel. The Arab called themselves
Palestinians. The Arabic- speaking Muslim became the dominant in the area after many Jews
were killed and many forced to flee the country. In the 1900, the total population for the area was
recorded as 600, 000. Out of the total population, close to 94% were Palestinians. Many Arabs
were willing to sell their land to the Jews who were coming back but some of them were worried
that they might become the minority in the country that they considered as their own. It is worth
noting that a movement that aimed at influencing the Jews to move back to Israel to reclaim their
land started in the 1800s. The Jews them started coming back in the 1940s.

The Great Arab revolt happened around the 1930s (Louis, 2006). This revolt facilitated
and directed by the Jews who had just moved back to Israel and the British. The British executed
the revolt with the help of the Jews Militia. At this time the Palestinians were threatened by the
growing number of the Jews in Israel. Even after the execution of the revolt, the conflict and the
tension between the Arabs and the Jews never really ended.
The map below shows the West Bank and the Gaza strip. These two regions are exactly
at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian war.
It is the year 1948 that the British left. After this the neighboring countries such as Egypt,
Lebanon, Syria as well as Iraq, invaded this country to help calm the situation. The Arabs ended
up losing. It is after this that the Palestinian diaspora began. Many Arabs fled the country top the
neighboring countries such as Syria. In these foreign nations, they lived as refugees just waiting

for a day they would return back to their homeland, Israel. This fleeing of the country by the
Arabs is known as Al-Nakba. It is also known as the Catacylsm.
Two parts of the land of Palestine was not made part of the Israel. These two parts are
West Bank and City of Gaza. In the 1960s the Palestinians executed border raids in the land of
Israel with the help of countries such Egypt, Syria and Jordan. It is in the year 1964 that the
conflict between the two parties reached a new level. It became more complex and intense. This
was marked by the Al-Fatah raid into Israel. Al-Fatah was a group in Palestine that was formed
with the main of taking over the land of Israel. This group was headed by Yasser Arafat. The
group later was joined by the Palestine Liberation Organization also known as PLO. This
happened in June 1964.
The fight between Israelis and the Palestinians is quite complex yet easily understood.
Both sides believed that they are entitled; the Israelis believe that they are entitled and that they
own the land Israel while the Palestinians do believe that they also own a land called Palestine
(Spangler, 2015). They go to the extent of calling the land different names. Unfortunately the
land that they have been calling the different names is one and the same land. The Israelis who
are religious and the Palestinians, who are Muslims, all believe that the land was given to them
by God and the act of giving it away is an insult to God.
The two, Israelis and the Palestinians, have engaged in dialog. This dialog and
negotiations were led by the Israel leader, Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestine leader,
Mahmoud Abbas. This was mediated by an international contingent that consists of Russia, US,
the UN and the EU. Arab league that was founded by Egypt has been another key international
player.

To date the war between the Arabs and the Jews has not stopped. This is despite the
efforts by other nations such United States of America to help the two come to a final peace
agreement. In the future there are not any foreseeable and acceptable compromises that will be
made by the two to lead to a peaceful coexistence (Kourosh, 2010). The Israel government is
shifting more to the right which has led to creation of more branches of Zionism. This makes it
difficult for such a government to make the required concessions that are required to come to a
peace agreement.
