The Career Tool Kit: Skills for Success (4th ed.), Ch. 1
(Respond back to Post/ 190-200 words)
1. After reading chapter one of our course material book Career Tool Kit: Skills for Success, 4th
Edition I also learned from the tool kit, questions to ask myself. First questions are why am I here?
Will this class help me find the correct career I am looking for? The next question is, is taking this
class the right choice? Many students have asked this question I’m I taking the right step in obtaining
my goal. Staying committed is also very important even when it gets tough not to give up. I ran into
this predicament at the start of this class because I had no clue on what to do since it was very
different from the other course in the aspect of working in teams. I stuck to it and did what I need to
do in order to understand how I need to do things in this class. My academic counselor was very
helpful in helping me understand exactly what I needed to do.
Has anyone else in the class run into this same issue and if so what did you do to figure out what
needed to be done?

Emotional intelligence involves a leaders ability to manage their emotions such that they are able to
work with staff and lead them through difficult times and situations. Furthermore, to manage with
emotional intelligence is something that healthcare leaders will need to have to work effectively with
their staff as well as external stakeholders. It is noteworthy to note that outstanding leaders must
have more in their toolkit besides emotional intelligence to be successful, however, if you are able to
manage your emotions and feelings you are a step ahead of those who are challenged with this skill.
According to Mittal & Sindhu (2012) note that “people who are successful are those who have an
optimistic attitude, right kind of flexibility in thoughts, a quick learning attitude and emotionally
balanced (pg. 1)”.
An emotionally balanced professional has the ability to cope up with uncertainty and
imperfection. What are thoughts regarding which is more important; EQ or IQ? Why do you say
this? What does it mean to defining who you are in the work setting?

6. (respond back to post 190/200 words)( you can also ask questions in the response post) This
chapter discussed that skill is called knowing how to learn, the techniques involved in knowing how
to learn can free your mind to take in the knowledge you encounter. They enable you to evaluate,
retain, and use what you have studied. Also, it’s amazing what visual focus can do for the quality of
your listening. When you look directly at the person seeking, you guide your energy toward that
individual, allowing you to take in the information freely. Plus, focusing on the speaker helps you
ignore distractions. Take listening one step further by using open facial expressions and body
positioning to show your interest, and you will encourage the other person to open up even more.
Another great point discussed in the chapter, concentration being able to actively listen depends on
your ability to concentrate. Concentration, the act of collecting one’s thoughts and focusing them
toward one center; the act of increasing something in density or intensity. Interesting point, when it
comes to concentration, consider yourself a participant in a bicycle race. A successful racer has only
one thing in mind: to keep going and move ahead. If the racer worries about how fast the other
racers are going, who is ahead, or how many miles are left to go, his concentration would scatter.
The racer will lose a bit of his brainpower, which will hinder his success.
