Public Narrative on Racine Foster Care in Wisconsin
Overview
For several years that I have lived I Wisconsin, I have witnessed the suffering that
children face whenever they grow up in families that are unstable. When parents who abuse
drugs such as alcohol, are violent, or are underprivileged raise children, they face numerous
challenges, which at times, affect their development. The challenges faced by young children
often restrict the quality of education and healthcare that they receive. Moreover, the components
that enable children to grow into dependable adults are deficient in families who abuse drugs or
are unable to cater for their needs. Besides the inability to provide for their children, some
families have irresponsible parents who due to their illegal engagements end up in prison forcing
children to face numerous challenges. The advent of foster care centers in Wisconsin was a
major milestone in addressing the challenges that children who live in the aforementioned
families face as they grow. Through foster care centers such as Racine Country Foster Care
Centre in Wisconsin, children can grow and experience love and care expected from a supportive
parents or caregivers.
The Story of Self
Some of the main components of the self-aspect of my narrative emanate from my
experiences from childhood. As a child, my parents were caring, loving, and supportive. They
did their best to ensure that I received a good education, medical attention, and protection. Out of
the care, love, and protection that I received from my parents, I grew up and become an adult

who could instill the same values in my own children. Over the recent past, I observed that poor
parenting makes an individual deficient of values, skills, and good characteristics that facilitate
interpersonal skills useful in creating productive relationships. Out of my experiences, I was able
to relate the good character of individuals with the nature of their parenting. During my time in
the region of Wisconsin, I have witnessed the role that foster care plays in helping children live
normal lives. The experience resonates with the role that my parents played when I was young
and is among the reasons that compelled me to be passionate about foster care.
Some of the critical points or issues that I can recall comprise the challenges I faced each
time I saw children suffering in the streets with no one to protect and love them. The experiences
made me realize that indeed foster care centers like Racine play an important role in the society.
Lee, Courtney, and Tajima (2014) elucidate that by ensuring that children live normal lives and
enjoy the warmth, love, and protection, foster care centers not only improve the future of a
nation but also minimize the suffering that young individuals face as they grow. I strongly
believe that out of the passion that I have concerning foster care centers, I will engage myself in
the activities that focus on improving the lives of children and teenagers living in Racine County
Foster Care. Using the passion and drive that I have on issues of foster care, I will convince the
society to also participate in supporting care centers especially Racine County Foster Care.
The Story of Now and Us
Now (The Urgent Challenge)
The present challenge, which requires urgent attention, is the minimization of the
suffering faced by children in unstable families. Research by Dworsky, Napolitano, and
Courtney (2013) show that while foster care centers help to reduce the number of children facing
challenges in various families several other children still experience issues without the

knowledge of these centers. I will persuasively inform my colleagues that they need to support
the initiatives of foster care centers and be part of the help that children need. In effect, I will
challenge my colleagues to be the voice of children who are suffering in silence. To persuade
them to be part of the urgent initiative, I will give them the story of my experiences and the
observations that I have made by looking at the suffering children. Out of the stories, my
colleagues will be convinced to be partakers of the superb initiative.
The Story of Us
“Us” in the context of a public narrative implies a society or a group of individuals rallied
towards a common objective advanced by a narrative (Ganz, 2013). In the context of my
narrative, the focus of “us” will be on my colleagues. I will strive to work with them towards the
common objective of reducing the number of children suffering in the region. I will challenge
them to help in lookout for children who have challenges and present the issues to foster centers
such as Racine. By airing the problems faced by children and teenagers to the center, the group
will be fulfilling the “us” initiative as outlined in the provisions of a public narrative.
