GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
CROSS CULTURAL ENCOUNTER PROJECT
Global business managers learn to work with people from other cultural backgrounds. This
assignment requires that you develop a personal relationship with someone from another
cultural background and discuss with them your values and ways of life. You are to (a)
develop a personal relationship by doing activities together, (b) identify similarities and
differences in your behaviors and values, (c) explain these differences in terms of the overall
social structure of their society. Then you should (d) analyze how you reacted to their
behavior and adjusted your own conduct to better interact with people from that background.
Finally, you should (e) identify the entrepreneurs and innovators who are respected in that
society and (f) research business and organizational dealings that bring together people from
these two backgrounds. Your effort to build creatively this relationship and then honestly
assess it as a cross-cultural experience is a critical element of the course.
Choosing a Cross-Cultural Buddy – Students choose buddies for strategic reasons: they
identify a part of the world they would like to learn about, then they meet and develop a
relationship with someone from that background, either in our class, across campus or in the
greater community. University resources can help you find a suitable buddy.
Write a statement describing your cross-cultural encounter following the directions below.
Address each question separately. The completed document should be at least 10 pages in
length, double-spaced, and you are encouraged to make it as long as you like. Write clearly
and succinctly. Papers will be evaluated based on demonstrated quality of thought and
clarity of writing style.
