Assignment Steps Resources: Microsoft® PowerPoint® Select a business where one of your team members works or one with which you are “ALL” familiar to make sure you are able to gather sufficient data, and for which you can identify processes to improve. Execute the define phase of the Six Sigma DMAIC project including the following: Identify customers and their priorities. Identify a project suitable for Six Sigma efforts based on: Business objectives. Customer needs and feedback. For example, if the team chooses a fast food chain, they could observe and record defects with preparation and delivery of the food, cleaning of the restaurant inside and out, including the rest rooms Productivity of the operation and quality of service measured by such metrics as: wait times per each customer from the time the order is made until the customer is handed their food, customers served per hour per total number of employees, number of errors made in products served vs ordered, friendliness of the staff, and cleanliness of the operation; including inside the restaurant, outside, in the rest rooms, tables, floors, waste baskets, etc. Identify and develop the problem statement. Identify CTQs (critical-to-quality characteristics) the customer considers to have the most impact on quality. Execute the measure phase of the Six Sigma DMAIC project including the following: Determine the metrics to measure the process and how it is performing. Identify the key internal processes influencing CTQs and measure the defects currently generated relative to those processes. Develop a 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation (One Slide per Team Member), including detailed speaker notes, highlighting the summary in which you describe your work on the two phases of the Six Sigma process improvement project.Format your assignment as if you would be giving a presentation to senior management.Lean Techniques(Individual)Purpose of Assignment The purpose of this assignment is for students to evaluate the lean techniques applied to business in today’s workforce. Develop a business case including financial benefits on how operations consulting can have a positive impact on the business.Develop a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation of an operations consulting engagement proposal to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the target firm.Week 5-(1) Group Assignment and (1) individual assignmentSix Sigma Yellow Belt Training II (group)Purpose of Assignment The purpose of this assignment is for students to receive Six Sigma Yellow Belt Training Executing DMAIC Six Sigma quality improvement (analyze, improve, and control) projects. Assignment Steps Resources: Microsoft® PowerPoint® Use the same business your team chose and has been observing and collecting data for the Week 3 Learning Team Assignment. Execute the “analyze” phase of the Six Sigma DMAIC project including the following: Determine the most likely causes of defects. Understand why defects are generated by identifying the key variables most likely to create process variation. Identify necessary/unnecessary process steps. Execute the “improve” phase of the Six Sigma DMAIC project including the following: Identify means to remove the causes of defects. Confirm the key variables and quantify their effects on the critical-to-quality characteristics (CTQs). Modify the process to stay within an acceptable range. Execute the “control” phase of the Six Sigma DMAIC project including the following: Determine how to maintain the improvements. Determine how to monitor and control improvements. Utilize those analytical tools available for Six Sigma as appropriate including, but not limited to: flowcharts, run charts, Pareto charts, checksheets, cause-and-effect diagrams, opportunity flow diagram, process control charts, failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), design of experiments (DOE) and lean tools. Students can use templates located in the text or online sources. Develop a 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation (each team memeber presents a slide for their respective items and toll usage), including talking points, highlighting your work on the three phases of the Six Sigma process improvement project. Operations Forecasting (individual)Purpose of Assignment The purpose of this assignment is for students to learn how to apply Operations Forecasting.Assignment Steps Resources: Microsoft® Excel® (Template provided)Select a business operations dataset from the internet, which can be used for forecasting what the results may be at a future state (monthly [for two years], quarterly [for five years], annually [for 20 years]. (See example in the Template). Use caution in using the template, as some of the cells contain formatted functions for performing calculations. You should only need to enter data into Column A and B only. Review the template and the associated data. This should give you an idea of the types of data you will require, and what the results columns reveal. You are required to provide an APA formatted reference to the location of the source data (Do Not just enter the Web Link). The returned work from previous week’s work, should give you some insight as to what an APA reference should look like. Develop a run over a given period, upper limit and lower limit as to confidence in the forecast using Microsoft® Excel®.Template Compare and contrast each quadrant of the forecast. Evaluate the impact this forecast would have on the firm from a financial metrics standpoint, by writing a 300-word report in which you describe your forecasting project and what it means in terms of favorable or unfavorable forecast and why or why not..

SIGNATURE ASSIGNMENT

Signature Assignment
To Whom It May Concern, my name is Jordan Escovedo, and I am currently studying to
obtain my MBA in Project Management. I have completed eight of the twelve required course
and am in my final week of Operations Management the ninth class in the program with a 3.92
overall GPA. From all the previous courses to include Organizational Leadership, Management,
and Business Law plus a few more; however, these couple classes have built up to the current
course to help me understand myself as a business professional. This class has paved the way for
a better understanding towards operating a business efficiently by fully employing managing
techniques and lean six sigma processes to better a business and its atmosphere. This course has
also helped me grow in the direction of not holding back m knowledge and expertise toward
business decisions and opportunity with new companies. This essay will discuss an overview of
my time spent in Operations Management to include what each individual assignment and team
assignments have helped me progress in my profession mentally and strategically.
Individual Assignments
Beginning with the flowchart assignment, this simple exercise helped me understand the
small unnoticed steps in normal everyday processes most people take for granted. Having the
ability to analyze a small process can mean making a trip to work as fast as possible by
neutralizing all unnecessary steps from the process. However, what the flowchart assignment has
lead me to do is analyze a few procedures in my current workplace to provide clear evidence to
my supervisor the many flaws that are holding the department back from exceling above
surrounding departments. The statistical process control study proved that multiple evaluations
of multiple items can prove through equations if a portion of a process is off track compared to

the other items involved. Even though a line graph can make it seem like numbers are similar but
one slight offset can make a tremendous difference to the final outcome.
Lean techniques were also a major focus throughout this course; as a certified green belt
in lean six-sigma I have had previous experiences of the theories and practices that come along
with six-sigma. Utilizing this style in a company can significantly change the way day to day
processes can change to better streamline such working situations like patient check-in,
scheduling and even how physician appointments can be quality in shorter timeframes. The
whole patient experience can be altered to seem like the visit is on an assembly line rather than
all over the place leaving the customer feeling lost. There is also organizational factors involved
with lean; events organized through lean concepts help coordinate organizational methods so
offices, workshops, or even patient rooms can be evaluated through 5S events. The 5S stands for
Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain; these word each have a purpose for helping clear
clutter and make materials better accessible for a more efficient working environment (Jacobs &
Chase, 2014). The last individual project that I feel would add more in depth clarification to
proving my skills is the operations consultant presentation that assessed a current company
dealing with a very troubled problem. Having the ability to assess a random company and
provide the best overall consulting method is not an easy task; however, having the ability to
provide positive solutions and ensuring company leaders that change is not always a bad
situation, then this class has proven to be effective.
Team Assignments
The team evolutions performed in this course gave insight on many different perspectives
and mindsets. The team assignments focused on lean six-sigma prioritizing; the company we
focused on was Ahtna a company contracted by the federal government to conduct training

through a simulated program. Using flowchart techniques, lean techniques, and consulting with
current Ahtna employees gave my team more insight on information that any leadership group
would want to know quarterly rather than annually. The team looked at all aspects of the given
situation and provided the best possible resolution to Ahtna’s leadership and since the options
were presented to the actual company changes have been made to one of the teammates work
environments. Some leaders just may be looking for that actual employee to take the extra step to
providing sensible information that has been researched and prepared properly to know they
made the right decision recruiting the best fit employee for the position.
Conclusion
In conclusion, entrusting me as an employee with strong feelings toward bettering the
Veteran experience at the Veteran Affairs Hospital will always be my intention as not only as a
Veteran myself, but also as an employee. My focus is to make my department function as
smoothly and efficient as possible to ensure a memorable visit and family experience. My
understanding and taking from the Operations Management course is to always look for the next
process to better or analyze a previous project and ensure the numbers are still proving better
service than prior to the lean event. I fully appreciate your time and attention to this overview of
my learnings from this current course and hope you will utilize my knowledge and skills through
future VA process improvement events.
