B. Write an essay answering all of the questions below:
1. Describe how Sophocles portrays each of the following characters’ personalities, functions,
and goals: Haimon, Ismene, Teiresias, the Chorus.
2. List and explain several of the main themes in Antigone.
3. Analyze the similarities and differences between Antigone and Creon.
4. Does Antigone represent all women of her time in her character and behavior? What do you
know about the social position of women in classical Athens, during the mid-5th Century B.C.?
Your arguments should be based on evidence from the text itself and from relevant books
in the library.
