Introduction
The United Nations organized the United Nations/Indonesia International Conference on Climate
Change Adaptation under the framework of the United Nations Programme is conducted on Feb
17th – 19th, 2017 Portland, OR, USA.
The Committee which I attended was ‘Climate Change Adaptation’.
Sponsors for this committee are from Angola, Australia, Belgium, Cameroon, China, Nigeria,
South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Tajikistan, Togo, Turkey, United Kingdom.
Signatories are Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Italy, Japan,
United States of America, Uruguay, Czech Republic, Germany, QATAR.
I felt this is the best opportunity to communicate with different people from many places to acquire
knowledge on United Nations, their work towards the under developed countries, problems
discussion as well resolution decision on what is the good choice and how it works. Very
interesting to know many things which I miss before.
This International Conference brought together experts from the space and the climate change
community as well as decision makers to discuss methods to use space-based applications to
support the identification and implementation of adaptation measures, as well as to share
experiences and lessons learned on the use of such applications in the context of mitigation.
This conference makes me to think more about, the reasons of United Nation collaboration and
why united nations chooses to help for under developed countries and what they will benefit and
I got many more questions in my mind. When I came back from the conference.
Learning from the conference – Building Capacity for Climate Change Adaptation/ United
Nations/Indonesia
As a group, first we start discussed about important goals and objectives about the section for that
day as well as resolution to solve the present issue through understanding the current issues in
Indonesia such as social, legal, political, cultural, technological, environmental and so on
conditions, both sides of the coin.
The following are some of the discussions we analyzed on ‘Building Capacity for Climate Change
Adaptation’ through some research work.
✓ Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable in Indonesia, which set global
standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, rethinking the way we build,
manage, and live in cities through drawing together cooperation with committed partners,
relevant stakeholders, and urban actors at all levels of government as well as the civil
society and private sector.
✓ End poverty in all its forms everywhere in Indonesia, as one in five people in developing
regions still live on less than $1.25 a day, and there are millions more who make little more
than this daily amount, plus many people risk slipping back into poverty.
✓ Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages in Indonesia, progress has
been made on increasing access to clean water and sanitation, reducing malaria,
tuberculosis, polio, and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
✓ Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning in Indonesia,
quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainable
development. Basic literacy skills have improved tremendously, yet bolder efforts are
needed to make even greater strides for achieving universal education goals.
✓ Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources in Indonesia, to think
on rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and even the
oxygen in the air we breathe, are all ultimately provided and regulated by the sea.
Throughout history, oceans and seas have been vital conduits for trade and transportation.
Careful management of this essential resource is a key feature of a sustainable future.
✓ Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all
in Indonesia, economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow
people to have quality jobs that stimulate the economy while not harming the environment.
Job opportunities and decent working conditions are also required for the whole working
age population.
✓ Promote just, peaceful, and inclusive societies in Indonesia, the institutions most affected
by corruption are the judiciary and police. The rule of law and development have a
significant interrelation and are mutually reinforcing, making it essential for sustainable
development at the national and international level.
The hardest problem or challenge, I came across is fast communication with in my group
members and sometimes quick understanding which leads to miss important points. I felt so hard
to discuss and give my points to the group members, because I’m little bit tensed and felt like may
be my English is not good to communicate. Coming to writing, I know I have excellent writing
skill but hardest challenge is communicating in English language. That’s the many problem I faced
in the conference.
I would definitely do differently next time, to overcome the problem which I faced now, because
I can see myself very good changes in communication, interaction, co-operation skills compared
to the past. When I’m in Saudi Aribia I don’t know how to speak, write, and listen English
language. But now I’m doing all my assignments in English with the help of writing center,
professors. Attending the conference is a big thing to me. I’m sure that I will definitely take a
chance to talk more in detail regarding the problem, solution with reasons.
I would like you to know in assigning my grade is, I really like this subject. Honestly, I learned
a lot from this class, activities, assignments, and about conference which gave me practical
experiences, I never had before with other classes. Thank you so much for giving opportunity to
fix my position paper to increase my grade.
Some constructive suggestions for the next conference, I would like to suggest is students who
are taking this class for next time and planning to go for conferences should be prepared and
practiced to present yourself. Good and formal dressing is also important. I felt from my
experiences, good dressing and good communication give much importance to our self as well as
for our school WOU also.
